Introduction
Effective communications has to multi-faceted in order to break through what is being described as "advertising cluster".
In the United States, where they measure most things, it has been found that the average consumer iss exposed to more than 1,500 advertising messages every day. The messages can be found on billboards, bumper stickers, T-shirt and cap logos and in public restrooms. They even sell space on the inside of the cup at the golf course. Most newspapers are about 40% advertising; trade journals often contain even more. Company newsletters now frequently carry advertisements. Your lights and water bills may arrive with multiple ads enclosed. In other words, advertising is everywhere and has become so much part of the scenery that it is largely unnoticed. Television viewers and radio listeners habitually channel hop during advertising breaks and manufacturers of video recorders now offers functions that zap advertisements.
As a result, it is virtually impossible to communicate effectively through advertising alone even with a huge budget.
The same id true for traditional public relations which focused on getting mentions in the press. The media depends on advertising to stay in business and will only give free publicity - no matter how newsworthy and clever - for a limited amount of time.
What is needed is an integrated approach to communication which offers clients a new and ever-evolving way of cutting the clutter and reaching their target market.
Gate 7 is one of the first agencies in the world that has been designed from the ground up to achieve just that. The communication tools in Gate 7's toolbox include:
Services

Project Management
All communications assignments are handled on a project basis. The Gate 7 approach is:

  1. Obtain the brief from the client and establish the needs and measurable outcomes.
  2. Put together project team to establish the best way to meet those needs
  3. Appoint a project manager who is responsible for co-ordinating all aspects and ensuring that there is a common message thread thoughout the different activities.
  4. The project manager will, in co-operation with the client and the project team, write comprhensive, creative briefs for the different communication tools that will be used.
  5. Service providers - most but not all of which will be in-house - are briefed and tasked with submitting their own project plans with commited times, dates, measurables, and budgets.
  6. Project then managed by the Gate 7 manager responsible, whish means that the client need only deal with a single person. The managers of the different aspects of the project are called in as and when necessary.

Advertising
Despite the clutter, advertising plays an important role in most communication projects. The Gate 7 approach is to see how best the advertising budget can be leveraged to proovide maximum exposure for the client. Wherever possible we work in partnership with media owners i norder to create a win-win situation for the client and the electronic or print media. Gate 7 then ensures that the creative application is tailored to the need of the customer, client and media form. At Gate 7 the advertising and public relations activities are closely co-ordinated.

Public Relations
Public relations encompasses a wide range of activities - from traditional media mangement through qualitative research, road shows, lobbying, and community interaction. the role of public relations is to create an energy - a hype - around a product, service, company, organisation or event. It should take control of their communication process from the initial phases of the project and manages the message throughout the project and beyond. This, of course, includes supporting and working with the advertising team.

Research

Gate 7 believes that reseach is an integral part of any major communications project. As one of the fathers of total quality management, Philip Cosby, puts it :"Tell me what you measure and I will tell you what you do." Qualitative and quantitive research is needed before, during and after a communications project in order to first establish the status quo, to determine whether the plan is working and then to measure its effectiveness. it is a highly specialised field and Gate 7 selects partners who understand the market and needs of each client.

Multi-media
Multi-media ranges from PowerPoint presentations to interactive sales tools to PC games designed to promote the attributes of a particular product or service, viral marketing, fun cellphone screensavers and, of course, website designed around the needs and interests of the visitor and not the abilities of the techies who designs architecture. With Gate 7's interactive approach to communication, the sky is the limit. We stive to make the optimum use of this exciting communication tool.

Promotions
Gate 7 promotions are designed from the ground up to support the brand and message of the client. The company has its own equipment and wide-experience in events ranging from all-night New Year's parties attracting some
15 000 revellers to intimate presentations for small groups of customers. gate 7 takes control of the whole event, including security, sound, the artists, hospitality and refreshments.

Customer Relations
Customer relations has become a discipline in its own right. Every member of an orginisation is a sales person for that organisation. Our challenge is to ensure that they are effective. Gate 7 works with its clients in order to ensure they give the right message to their customers. We look at all aspects of customer inter-action, including the design of reception areas, the branding of vehicles, dress, the way the telephone is answered, standards in terms of how long it takes to respond to a query, standard operating procedures for dealing with clients., the flow of information within a company and interactive marketing.

Media Planning
OMD, the country's largest media buying house brings its expertise to Gate 7 and will help to plan effective advertising campaigns. OMD's research and systems will help pin-point exactly the right media for a particular audience and campaign.

Training
Gate 7 provides and facilitates a comprehensive range of communications training courses - be it tutoring the managing director on how to be interviewed on television or voice training for receptionist and telephonists. Gate 7 training will also look at grooming, dress code and sales skills.

Human Resources
People are important to Gate 7. They are what give us the edge and what gives our clients innovative solutions. Gate 7 has its own HR specialist who also handles all contracts with suppliers and artists.

Finance and Administration
Part of every project management plan is the administation and finance functions. Gate 7 delivers what it promises.
